Ask the Rabbi
Document Actions
Rabbi Lerner welcomes questions about the ideas that are articulated in the Core Vision of The Tikkun Community at www.tikkun.org, about his editorials in Tikkun magazine, and about the ideas that you’ll find in his writings, particularly Jewish Renewal, Spirit Matters, Healing Israel/Palestine and The Socialism of Fools: Anti-Semitism on the Left. If you can’t get them through your bookstore, you can order them from Tikkun at our bookstore at this website, or by calling 510 644 1200. To ask a question, please make reference to particular passages in his editorials, the Core Vision or his books when asking questions. If you have questions about other articles in Tikkun, he is happy to pass them on to the author of those articles (remember, articles in Tikkun do not necessarily reflect our editorial position, and Rabbi Lerner often consciously seeks to print articles with which he disagrees). Rabbi Lerner is the fulltime editor of our magazine, rabbi of Beyt Tikkun synagogue, and national chair of The Tikkun Community. So he can’t answer all the questions put to him. He will try his best to get to your question eventually, but it may take time. If you are a current subscriber to Tikkun or a paid-up member of The Tikkun Community, say so: he gives priority to those communications. However, he does not function as a research person, to find references or to tell you details of Jewish practice, so for those questions he recommends that you read the last third of his book Jewish Renewal, and then also consult A Guide to Jewish Religious Practice by Isaac Klein, Down to Earth Judaism by Arthur Waskow, and Mindful Jewish Living by Jonathan P. Slater. To pray with Rabbi Lerner in San Francisco, or study Torah and hang out with him during the weekly Beyt Tikkun pot-luck following Torah study in Berkeley, check the schedule at Beyt Tikkun synagogue: www.BeytTikkun.org. When you submit a question, you are thereby giving us permission to print that question with your name and the city in which you live in Tikkun magazine and/or on our website.
